History - Departmental

The fifth apparatus acquired by the Department was a P-350 walk-in truck.  This truck was painted white and additional springs were added in order to carry a heavier load.  This truck was equipped with wooden cabinets for rescue equipment and the interior floor was covered with aluminum diamond plate.  This truck replaced the first rescue truck during January of 1954.

The sixth apparatus received by the department was a new "Miller Meteor" Cadillac ambulance, fully equipped.  Then Captain of the Rescue Squad, Mr. Walter J. Stancliff, Sr., headed a fund drive and raised $10,000.00 through the citizens and area civic organizations.  This ambulance was put in service during September of 1956.

The seventh apparatus acquired by the department was Truck #77, which was first shown publicly on June 6, 1959 at the Lower Penns Neck (Pennsville) Fire Hall dedication parade.  Upper Penns Neck Fire Department won first prize of $100.00 and the Upper Penns Neck Rescue Squad won Best Squad Prize of $50.00.  This truck cost $32,500 fully equipped which included a 1,000 gallon water tank, 750 gallon per minute two state pump, a 1,000 PSIG Fog System with two electrically controlled booster hose reels, a 250 gallon per minute portable pump, a 2500 watt electric generator, 2000 feet of 2 1/2 inch hose and 600 feet of 1 1/2 inch fire hose.

The eight apparatus was a new 1962 "Superior" Cadillac ambulance to replace the 1956 Miller ambulance.  Funds to purchase this ambulance were collected from the residents via coin cards and the balance was made up with tax dollars.  This ambulance was put in service on Marcy 27, 1962.

The ninth apparatus acquired by the department was a second FWD (Four Wheel Drive) Auto Company to replace the Tank truck.  This new #76 was very similar to truck #77 bus some changes were made in order to make this truck less expensive without eliminating any of the necessary items.  The in-service date of this truck was May 28, 1963.
